After over 30 years living in plural marriage with his wives Meri Brown, Janelle Brown, Christine Brown, and Robyn Brown, three of Kody’s marriages came to an end and created a whole different view of polygamy for the patriarch of the Brown family.

Throughout Sister Wives season 18, Kody struggled to name his feelings and understand where they were truly coming from. His overall confusion led to interesting moments for the family as they navigated new ground.

According to an interview with People, Kody came to the conclusion that “plural marriage was completely unfair [after] much thought, much reflection, much prayer.” While Kody and Robyn were considering bringing someone else into the family after Janelle and Meri’s departures, things appear to be different after they’ve reflected on the life they built together.

Kody explained that he believes “there is not a disparity in fairness if there's not a disparity in choice,” making it clear that it took the experience of his marriages breaking apart to be able to “[remove] myself from thinking it was unfair.”

Kody's Breakups With Meri, Christine & Janelle Were A "Negotiation"

While Kody’s statements initially seem somewhat supportive of his exes leaving polygamy, he continued on to make it clear that he’s speaking about himself.

“Janelle, Meri, Christine, even Robyn, have their choice whether they stay in this relationship or not...that choice has been made, then I settle into whatever life continues to give me,” Kody shared, saying he felt he couldn’t “get out of these relationships” before.

Kody’s view on the breakups appears more technical than emotional. “Technically, our breakups,” he explained, “mine and Meri's, mine and Christine even, with all my bitterness and frustration with it, it was technically a negotiation. We negotiated a breakup.”

With Kody’s views shifting after experiencing some heartbreak of his own, he’s sharing the truth about plural marriage from his point of view. Though he's had a difficult time after Janelle and Meri followed Christine’s lead and left him in late 2022, he’s looking at plural marriage as something he’ll be leaving in his past.

Sharing that he’s moving forward in a loving relationship with Robyn and putting a priority on spending time with his kids, Kody’s hopeful that he can learn from his past. It’s clear Kody’s looking at his relationships from a place of hurt, rather than taking some of the blame for the things he's done.

Although Kody may be having a difficult time processing the emotions surrounding his splits from his ex-wives, the fact that he’s been speaking publicly about them could help him in the long run. Though his thoughts may change over time, Kody’s behavior has been interesting to watch as he’s taken time and space to understand what’s happening in his life.

With Sister Wives season 19 still months away, Kody will have the time to change his views again before people ask more probing questions about his personal life. Still, the Sister Wives patriarch may have to reflect before he can truly move forward.
